Russia wants to collaborate with Colombia over civil nuclear energy, the Russian minister of foreign affairs said Tuesday, after meeting with his Colombian counterpart in Moscow. "We are interested in the preparation of an intergovernmental agreement for cooperation in the area of civil nuclear energy. We hope that this process will produce results", Sergei Lavrov said, quoted by the agency Ria Novosti. Russia and Venezuela signed a related agreement to diversify Venezuela's energy resources, when Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited Caracas on November 27, 2009. To date, only two countries in Latin America, Argentina and Brazil, have nuclear reactors. Since November 2005 Argentina and Brazil have been pursuing bilateral cooperation for research into civil nuclear energy.
