The Office of Security Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Honduras, through U.S. Southern Command’s (SOUTHCOM) Humanitarian Assistance Program made an important donation of medical equipment and office furniture to strengthen the health care system in Choluteca.
The initiative was originally coordinated as part of humanitarian exercise New Horizons 2020, which was scheduled to take place in Choluteca but was cancelled due to the pandemic. SOUTHCOM, U.S. Air Forces Southern/12th Air Force, and the Office of Security Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy worked jointly to maintain this commitment to the Honduran people.
The donated equipment, valued at $165,000, includes hospital beds, mattresses, hospital stretchers, ambulance stretchers, hospital exam tables, hospital gowns, hospital bed linens, and office furniture. The donation arrived at its destination thanks to coordination efforts between the Office of Security Cooperation and the southern area’s local authorities, and support from the Honduran Armed Forces.
Choluteca’s Departmental Health Secretariat will distribute the equipment and furniture in response to the COVID-19 emergency.
The U.S. Embassy continues to support the Honduran people amid the COVID-19 pandemic and is committed to continue working side by side with Honduras to overcome the pandemic’s challenges.
