Between November 23 and 26, 2021, Brasília hosted one of the largest and most important Defense and Security fairs in Latin America, the Conference on Military Systems and Technology (CSTM, in Portuguese).
In its 10th edition, CSTM brought together military and government officials, as well as investors, diplomats, scholars, and systems operators in the private sector.
Brazilian Defense Minister Walter Souza Braga Netto highlighted that Brazil has a growing defense and security industry and that its strengthening is one of the Ministry of Defense’s strategic objectives.
“May this conference contribute to discussions, experience exchanges, and grasping the importance of the industry’s technological autonomy for the growth of national defense capabilities, ensuring deterrence and maintenance of sovereignty, freedom, and our democracy,” the minister said.
Forty two exhibitors, who presented their technological innovations — available to the military and security forces — attended the exclusive event for those who work in the defense and security sectors, as well as cybernetics.
“With a 10-year history, CSTM promotes the defense and security industry to the Brazilian society and the country’s public administration, highlighting its relevance and its driving role in the economy as a whole,” said Heleno Maffucci, CSTM’s director of Strategy.

New technologies presented and discussed
Several new technologies were introduced during the event. The Brazilian company AEL Sistemas presented Torch-X, a multi-domain (air, land, maritime, and shore) command and control system, developed according to network-centric warfare principles.
The Brazilian Army (EB, in Portuguese) presented the Integrated Border Monitoring System (SISFRON, in Portuguese), which aims to increase the capacity to monitor border areas, as well as ensure the continuous and safe flow of data between different levels of the land force.
A Swedish company, SAAB, brought the Integrated Communications Intelligence (COMINT) system for reconnaissance tasks and electromagnetic spectrum monitoring suitable for strategic and tactical applications. COMINT is SAAB’s main solution for EB’s SISFRON, which expands and strengthens the country’s border security.
The world-renowned Israel Aerospace Industries presented to the Brazilian defense market a diverse portfolio of anti-aircraft defense equipment, unmanned aerial vehicle systems, target acquisition systems, tactical communication systems, and various sensors. The highlight was Carmel, the Israeli Army’s new armored combat vehicle.
