The USNS Comfort departed the Port of Miami on June 4, marking the official launch of U.S. Southern Command-sponsored mission Continuing Promise 2025. Beyond the U.S. military medical professionals onboard, the Comfort crew includes a vital contingent of medical personnel from partner nations. This multinational team comprises doctors, nurses, dentists, technicians, and logistics support staff, all working together for the mission. (Photos: Luis Villegas/Diálogo)Dominican Republic personnel onboard the USNS Comfort pose for a photo ahead of the launch of Continuing Promise 2025. “This is a great experience for me, as it’s my first time on this mission,” said Dominican Army Sergeant Major Victor Guerrero, a member of the Dominican delegation. “It’s an honor for me to be able to serve and help those in need in the countries we will be visiting, including my own country, the Dominican Republic.”“There are patients who are unable to access the healthcare system, and this is a reality that is evident throughout the Americas. The objective of this mission is to help improve this situation, to follow up on or provide treatment to patients who cannot be treated in their own countries, with doctors who have greater capacity to solve these problems and provide care to all those people who may not be able to access their own country's healthcare system.” Ecuadorian Navy Lieutenant Commander Javier Román Farías, part of the Ecuadorian medical team.The Canadian delegation poses for a photo aboard the USNS Comfort prior to departure for Grenada. Mission Continuing Promise has a long history of supporting communities in need within partner nations of the region, leveraging the expertise of U.S. military medical professionals alongside the vital contributions of partner nations personnel deployed onboard the ship and awaiting at each stop. “I think that it’s very important to show that we are able to work together and serve these countries,” said Canadian Armed Forces Corporal Mylene Bouchard, dental technician.Partner nations medical professionals pose for a photo prior to the official launch of mission Continuing Promise 2025, aboard the USNS Comfort. “I am very proud to be part of this mission,” said Richard Mateo, a medical doctor with the Dominican Navy. “I have heard about previous missions, their commitments, and the results, and I know that it will be of great benefit to the countries and will also strengthen existing relations between the United States and each of the countries we visit.”
