In a joint operation, the Colombian Air Force, the Army, the Police, and the Office of the Attorney General captured alias Carlos or Rana Platanera, top leader of the criminal group Ismael Ruiz Front, on March 3, 2021. The criminal was carrying two handguns at the time of his arrest in Río Blanco municipality, southern Tolima department.
This individual belonged to the Front 27, a dissidence of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC, in Spanish). In 2007, Rana Platanera surrendered to the Colombian Army in Mesetas municipality, Meta; and in 2018 he rejoined the FARC as a member of the now defunct Front 27. That same year, he was captured for aggravated theft and sentenced to 24 months in prison, as well as disqualified from exercising public rights or holding a public position, by the Chipaque’s municipal court in Cundinamarca.
The criminal was brought to the Attorney General’s Office against Organized Crime to answer for the crimes of forced recruitment, terrorism, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
