Argentina Captures Narcotraffickers, Seizes 9 Tons of Marijuana

The Argentine Naval Prefecture (PNA, in Spanish) dismantled drug trafficking networks operating in the province of Corrientes and seized 9,088 kilograms of marijuana, in different operations carried out June 30-July 20, 2021. The Argentine National Gendarmerie (GNA, in Spanish) also seized 1,744 kg of coca leaves in three operations July 1-15.

in the municipality of Montecarlo, Misiones province, the PNA reported on July 20. The vehicle, naval officers confirmed, had been stolen in Buenos Aires.

On July 15, the GNA reported the seizure of 440 kg of coca leaves in their natural form in two operations. In the first operation, agents seized 370 kg that were hidden in the false-bottom of a truck, in Gualeguaychú, Entre Ríos province. In the second operation, authorities seized 70 kg that two women were transporting in the municipality of San Antonio de Los Cobres, Los Andes province.

On July 8, the PNA reported seizing 5,300 kg of marijuana near the Yacyretá dam, in the municipality of Ituzaingó, Corrientes province, on the border with Paraguay. The operation was the result of a series of patrols in a drug smuggling area.

On July 6, in the city of Humahuaca, Jujuy province, the GNA reported the seizure of 754 kg of coca leaves in their natural form, which two women and a man were transporting in a van.

On July 1, the gendarmes seized 550 kg of coca leaves that two men were carrying in an SUV, in the city of La Quiaca, Jujuy province.

Finally, in the early hours of June 30, naval officers carried out three anti-narcotics operations in Misiones and Corrientes provinces, where they arrested 10 men who were involved in drug trafficking.

Personnel guarding the border city of Puerto Rico, in Misiones province, led one of the operations. The team detected a Paraguayan gang that was attempting to enter Argentina with 1,265 kg of marijuana. The second operation took place in Ituzaingó, where the Prefecture seized a shipment of 760 kg of marijuana near the Yacyretá dam. In the third operation, near the Paraná River, naval elements seized 763 kg of marijuana. They found the drug near the riverbank in a truck.
