Managua, 4 August (EFE).- Delegations from fifteen invited countries, including one from the United States, will attend the ceremonies celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the foundation of the Nicaraguan Army on 2 September, an official source announced today. The spokesperson for the Armed Forces, Gen. Adolfo Zepeda, speaking to local television’s Channel 12, announced that plans for the day include around ten U.S. Marines parading with Nicaraguan troops for the first time in history in Managua’s La Fe Square. The military source said that military personnel from Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Russia, Taiwan, and the countries of Central America, among other places, will also take part in the parade. Zepeda highlighted the fact that the military parade will also include around two hundred horseback riders from different Nicaraguan departments (provinces) where equestrian parades take place. The military spokesman affirmed that the situation on the 922-kilometer border with Honduras is normal, as it has always been, and that army units in the area are going about their usual business, while remaining watchful for anything that might occur. “The situation at present in Honduras due to the coup d’état is a matter for the Hondurans to resolve and should not be resolved on Nicaraguan territory,” Zepeda said.
