Ecuador Wins Third Place in Military Pentathlon World Championship

Nine athletes from the delegation led by Major General Jorge Peña, President of the Ecuadorian Military Sport Federation, including three women belonging to the Army, Navy and Airforce, received third place on August 19 in the LIX Military Pentathlon World Championships in Lahti, Finland, where they competed against 32 countries, including China and Russia.
In the contest, China ranked first, Russia attained second place, and Ecuador took third. Approximately 140 athletes competed in five disciplines such as: Accuracy and Speed, Obstacle Tracks, Rifle Shooting, Obstacle Swimming, Grenade Launching and a Cross-Country Marathon.
The results of the competition were obtained during the final test from Cross-Country Marathon, traveling a distance of 8 kilometers, Ecuador achieved 1000 points with a 28 minute record.
For the women’s competition, times, distances and obstacles varied in relation to men, specifically on the track pentathlon (four obstacles) and the Cross Country Marathon with only 2.5 miles. The contest began on Aug. 11 and ended on Aug. 18.
