Costa Rica detains alleged Gulf drug cartel leader

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica — Drug enforcement authorities in Costa Rica detained five alleged members of the Gulf drug cartel on July 5, officials said.
Among the detained was Juan Manuel García Hernández, alias “El Güero,” one of the alleged leaders of the criminal organization, Costa Rican authorities said.
Authorities detained the alleged drug gang members, five Mexicans and four Costa Ricans, in 10 operations between San José and the southern border with Panama, according to district attorney Juan Chavarría.
