The Panamanian authorities confiscated more than half a ton of heroin hidden in an abandoned car, that country’s police announced.
The police found 639 packages of the drug inside the vehicle, according to anti-drug prosecutor Javier Caraballo, speaking at a press conference. Some of the packages weighed more than a kilogram.

The vehicle with the drugs was found on 30 July in the remote Caribbean coastal locality of Gobea, in the province of Colón, 90 kilometers from Panama City. The authorities estimated that the seized drugs were worth around $70 million.
Three people were arrested during the operation, indicated Caraballo, who did not reveal the names of those detained.
