On August 29, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano signed a memorandum of understanding on aviation security with her Honduran counterpart, Oscar Álvarez, an official statement announced.
Napolitano and Álvarez signed an agreement on use of the Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS), which provides U.S. authorities with travelers’ data prior to their arrival in the country.
“This agreement affirms both nations’ commitment to increasing information-sharing capabilities and strengthening aviation security standards,” Napolitano explained, according to the statement released by her department.
Both countries likewise share an extensive program of cooperation against drug trafficking and organized crime, in which other Central American countries also participate, the text recalled.
