The Nicaraguan Army seized 232 kilograms of cocaine and a speedboat from alleged drug traffickers in the northeastern region of the country, the military announced.
The operation took place in the Haulover sector, 39 km south of Bilwi, in the North Atlantic Autonomous Region (Raan), around midnight on Sunday, the Army indicated in a statement.
A naval patrol pursued the drug traffickers – whose nationality was not specified – but they succeeded in escaping, although they left behind the speedboat with the drugs on board, according to the statement.
The drugs and the vessel were turned over to the public prosecutor’s office and the police, the military authorities indicated.
