Smith)Special Purpose Marine-Air Ground Task Force-Southern Command (SPMAGTF-SC) brought together more than 300 marines and sailors, primarily from the U.S Marine Corps Forces Reserve, for a six-month mission to Central America, June–November 2018. For the first time since its 2014 inception, SPMAGTF-SC deployed as a multinational task force with the participation of three Latin American officers. SPMAGTF-SC conducts yearly security cooperation training, engineering projects, and subject matter expert exchanges in Latin America and the Caribbean. The unit is also on standby to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the region.
