The Brazilian Air Force (FAB, in Portuguese) Anápolis Air Base, located in Goiás state, became operational in 1972, with the completion of its first landing strip, ushering in a new era, where the FAB could start exercising airspace sovereignty over the Brazilian territory. The following photos are in honor of the base. The KC-390, pictured, is capable of transporting a wide variety of cargo, weighing up to 26 tons, including armored vehicles, and is outfitted with state-of-the-art loading and unloading systems. The cargo cabin can also be configured to transport the wounded or sick on medical evacuation missions, and can be used for in-flight refueling, and search and rescue operations.
