A new contingent of “blue helmets” left for Haiti on 4 August, to join the United Nations mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
Chilean Defense Minister Andrés Allamand presided over the farewell ceremony, accompanied by Gen. Hernán Mardones, head of the Joint General Staff, which assumed command of the personnel heading to Haiti.
The contingent is made up of 515 personnel from the Chilean Army, Navy, Air Force, Carabineros (the national paramilitary police force), and Investigative Police, commanded by Air Force Aviation Col. Eleaser Bravo Vega.
It is appropriate to note that the Chilean troops will remain in Haiti for six months, contributing to humanitarian efforts to stabilize that country.
Greetings to the contingent that left for Haiti on August 4, this year. I hope that the will they had to help the Chileans in the earthquake that recently happened I hope they have the same will in Haiti. Remember that your country and flag will remain in high regard because of that effort that you are putting forth thanks
