Argentina commemorates the 200th anniversary of its Revolution on May 25. The nation broke colonial ties with Spain in 1810. At that time, Argentines set up an autonomous
local government called the Primera Junta (First Board), composed of intellectuals and
military leaders. The country declared its independence on July 9, 1816. The first
constitution was adopted in 1853.
