Capacity Building: includes articles on any bilateral or multilateral effort to reinforce a partner nation military's strengths. For example, any joint training effort, operation, exercise, seminar, etc. that shows the willingness of the United States to support its partners by sharing their knowledge and experience in certain areas that will make the partner nations better prepared to respond to their country's challenges themselves. These include medical readiness exercises (MEDRETEs), seminars, subject matter expert exchanges (SMEEs), or any joint learning effort among partner nations.

The Security Cooperation Office – Haiti (SCO-Haiti) and the Louisiana National Guard (LANG), in partnership with the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) Human Rights Office, sponsored The Caribbean Human Rights Initiative (HRI) Conference on May 24th-25th, 2016 at the Jackson Barracks in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Uruguay Hosts COJUMA for the First Time
For the first time, Uruguay co-hosted the Americas’ premier legal workshop, the Military Legal Committee of the Americas (COJUMA) from May 23rd thru 26th. Founded in 1995, COJUMA is a multilateral organization sponsored by U.S. Southern Command’s (SOUTHCOM) Office of the Staff Judge Advocate.
Deployable Military Camp: A Rapid-Response Alternative in Natural Disasters
The Chilean Army is strengthening its ability to respond to natural disasters and provide humanitarian assistance with the creation of its first-ever deployable military camp in northern Chile. The new rapid-deployment unit, which can temporarily house as many as 200 soldiers, is the result of a $1 million investment.
