MEXICO CITY — Soldiers captured an alleged leader of the notorious Zetas drug cartel, authorities said July 27.
Mauricio Guizar Cárdenas was arrested in a hotel in the state of Puebla, the navy said in a statement. He was wanted for the murder of four naval personnel in April and had a rocket-launcher and drugs when troops detained him.
Guizar Cárdenas, nicknamed “El Amarillo” (The Yellow), is considered the head of the Zetas in five districts of southeastern Mexico, the statement said.
The suspect was transferred to Mexico City for prosecution.
