With the aim of analyzing the threats affecting hemispheric security and understanding what the responsibilities of international organizations and Colombia’s commitments in the Americas are, the country’s War College, in alliance with the Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies (CHDS), is holding an International Strategy Seminar.
The event, which is taking place at the academic institution’s headquarters in Bogotá, includes the participation of distinguished CHDS lecturers, such as General (Ret.) Carlos Alberto Ospina Ovalle, the Chief of Defense Chair, and Venezuelan Air Force Brigadier General Boris Saavedra, among others.
At the event’s opening ceremony, Major General Jairo Alfonso Aponte Prieto, the director of the War College, invited attendees to conduct an exhaustive analysis of the threats affecting the hemisphere.
Along the same lines, he highlighted the academy’s role in generating new dynamics that can serve to neutralize dangers affecting the security of nations: “Criminals will always find an opportunity to violate countries’ borders. That obliges us to look for new and better solutions to respond to this situation; the seminar is the ideal opportunity to make progress on this topic,” he indicated.
