El Salvador’s military confronted insurgents from the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, a coalition organization of five left-wing militias.
May 1984 — A young child sleeps in the arms of a Salvadoran Soldier with an automatic weapon leaning against his knee, after field operations in the Cabañas province in El Salvador. The Soldier is one of about 3,000 government troops that participated in an anti-guerrilla operation.
