Queen Sofia tours Spanish projects in Hispaniola

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) Queen Sofia of Spain is touring
Spanish-funded ‎projects in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.‎

Dozens of children from poor families sang songs for the monarch Monday at an
education center ‎built on a former landfill outside the Dominican capital of Santo
Domingo. In conversations with ‎the queen, mothers thanked her for the Spanish
government's support and asked for expanded ‎programs.‎

The queen visited another youth center in the southern Dominican province of
San Cristobal later ‎in the day.‎

She is scheduled to meet Tuesday with Dominican President Leonel Fernandez
before traveling ‎across the border for a tour of similar projects in
