Peruvian Defense Ministry and Armed Forces Joint Command Organize Technology Fair
By Dialogo May 12, 2011
The lack of high-tech equipment, action strategies, and a culture of prevention of natural disasters has meant millions of dollars in losses for Peru over the last decade.
For this reason, the International Defense Technology Salon (SITDEF) is promoting the presentation of the most advanced tools from around the world for the prevention of and action in response to natural disasters, such as radars, meteorological systems, rapid-response helicopters, first-aid vehicles, military field hospitals, and computerized visors, among others.
This is a business and cultural event, jointly promoted and organized by the Peruvian Defense Ministry and Armed Forces in Peru every two years since 2007.
The event seeks to bring together domestic and foreign firms dedicated to exhibiting cutting-edge technology in the areas of natural-disaster prevention and national defense.
SITDEF’s third edition, held at the Peruvian Army’s headquarters from 11 to 15 May, was inaugurated by President Alan García and will be attended by authorities from the Armed Forces and the National Police, as well as by twelve defense ministers from the region, among others.
For the first time, a Sukhoi plane will be on exhibit, and attendees will be able to experience, using a simulator, what it is like to steer a submarine, as part of the celebrations for the centennial of the Peruvian Navy’s Submarine Force.
The 2011 edition of SITDEF is being held in a much larger space than the previous editions, enabling a better display of the most advanced defense, security, and natural-disaster-prevention equipment by the one hundred domestic and foreign firms participating.
In addition to specialized lectures addressed to military bodies such as the Air Force, the Navy, and the Army, the fair will also include the exhibition of defense equipment, such as tanks, communications equipment, citizen-safety systems, etc.
