The Nicaraguan Army’s Naval Force seized a ton of cocaine and arrested six people that were on-board a fishing boat flying the national flag in the Caribbean, informed an official source on September 22.

The operation was carried out 43 miles southeast of Puerto Cabezas, capital of the North Atlantic Autonomous Region, in coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard around midnight on September 21, according to Marvin Corrales, head of the Naval Forces, during a press conference.

The drugs were in a motorboat named ‘‘Milagros Número 2,’‘ which was sailing in open waters pretending to be fishing, when the military operation took place, Corrales said.

The military chief explained that the drug seizure was possible because they received intelligence data about the cocaine shipment at sea.
