The National Liberation Army (ELN), a leftist guerrilla group, affirmed that it will continue “under arms” until authentic peace arrives in Colombia, according to a New Year’s message published on its website.
“The ELN’s efforts in the coming year will be to support the struggles of the people and the nation, and we will be tireless in pursuing our aim to fight for authentic peace for Colombia,” the message signed by the rebel group’s commanders and fighters specified.
“Until that reality arrives, we will continue under arms, giving witness of our rebellion,” the statement added.
The ELN, the second-ranking guerrilla group fighting in Colombia, behind the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia), has around 2,500 members, according to Defense Ministry figures.
