Latin American Sailors Attend Coast Guard Course in Colombia

BOGOTA, April 17, 2009 (AFP) - Navy alumni from 12 Latin American countries and the Caribbean kicked off on the first international coast guard course in the Colombian port of Cartagena, which will last two months, according to a military report on Friday. The objective of this course is to train staff in maritime law enforcement procedures at sea and in the protection of human life, to successfully carry out the operations assigned during their terms of service, according to the report. The course was attended by pupils from the navies of Chile, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago, Panama, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, and Colombia.
