TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Honduran authorities on Nov. 29 seized what they said appeared to be a 15- to 20-ton cache of cocaine on a farm north of the capital.
The drugs were stashed in a 15-meter-long (49 foot) tunnel found on the farm in the department of Yoro, some 200 kilometers (124.3 miles) north of Tegucigalpa, said Elvis Guzmán, a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office.
“Everything appears to indicate it’s cocaine,” he said.
Honduras, like other Central American countries, has become a key transit point for drugs moving from South America to the United States.
At least 8 people were arrested in a series of raids that began over the weekend and resulted in the seizure of US$100 million in property.
