Guatemalan police seize 100 kilos of heroin

GUATEMALA CITY – Authorities announced on Aug. 23 that
Guatemalan police seized about 100 kilos (220 pounds) of liquid heroin from France
that entered the Central American country as a pharmaceutical chemical.
Interior Minister Mauricio López said the narcotic was stored in the Express
Aéreo Customs facility and was bound for the San José Pinula municipality, 15 miles
(24 kilometers) southeast of the capital.
The heroin entered the country in 15 small bottles and 7 plastic containers
that had the appearance of pharmaceutical products.
So far authorities have not detained any suspects, López said.
