On April 2, the Guatemalan police arrested Horst Overdick, a Guatemalan sought for extradition by the United States on charges of international drug trafficking, an official source announced.

The alleged drug trafficker was arrested in the town of San Lucas, Sacatepéquez, bordering the capital on the west, and was immediately sent to a maximum-security prison, by order of the Third Trial Court, which has jurisdiction over the case, Deputy Interior Minister Julio Rivera Clavería announced.

The official commented that the arrest of Overdick, alias “El Tigre” [“The Tiger”], took place following several searches conducted by the security forces in the department of Sacatepéquez.

An arrest warrant for Overdick has been issued by the New York District Court for purposes of extradition to the United States on drug-trafficking charges. According to the charges, he handled around 1,200 kilos of cocaine from South America in 2002.
