The French Navy has seized over 1.2 tons of cocaine and arrested seven people aboard two boats after a six-day chase ending in the Caribbean, the local military said.

The drugs were recovered from a boat flying the British flag which was caught by French surveillance frigate Le Ventose 600-700 kilometers off the French Caribbean island of Martinique on January 6.

The seizure came after a six-day chase in the Atlantic in which three crew members from a second boat which was spotted sailing alongside the first were also arrested.

The nationalities of the seven suspects have not been made public, the high command of the West Indies Armed Forces said.
