Four Paraguayans Arrested in Uruguay Anti-drug Operation

Four Paraguayan citizens together with four Uruguayans were arrested in Uruguay as part of an operation investigating the provision of marijuana to the local market, the Uruguayan Interior Ministry announced on January 18.

In the course of the operation, more than 126 kilos of marijuana, cash, firearms, and four vehicles were seized.

The General Directorate for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking indicated in a statement that the individuals arrested as part of Operation Crown, which involves “the investigation of a group of Paraguayan and Uruguayan citizens who were introducing significant amounts of marijuana into the local market,” gave statements to a Montevideo court on January 18.

The Paraguayans arrested are 45, 48, 23, and 40 years old.

The drugs seized were hidden in 183 packages inside two truck wheels transported by one of the seized vehicles.
