A total of 1,765 kg of high-quality marijuana belonging to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) was seized at a brickmaking firm in the department of Valle del Cauca, the country’s National Police announced on January 22.

The drugs “belong to the FARC guerrilla group” and are worth US$ 1.9 million, the agency specified in a statement.

An unidentified person alerted the police to the presence of the drugs at a factory in the municipality of Candelaria (Valle del Cauca). The marijuana had been hidden in the bricks and covered with vaseline and coffee to disguise its odor, the police explained.

The shipment is believed to have been in transit to the Atlantic coast for transportation to Central America, the authorities pointed out.

In 2011, the Colombian police seized around 290 tons of marijuana.
