Colombian Navy Seizes Over a Ton of Cocaine in the Pacific

The Colombian Navy seized 1,181 kg of cocaine on board a Colombian-flagged fishing boat sailing in the Pacific towards Central America, and its seven-member crew was arrested, the military institution reported on April 8.
The vessel was intercepted at 20 nautical miles west of Gorgona Island. It was reported that the boat possibly set sail from the port of Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca department.
According to the report, 59 bags containing about $30 million worth of drugs and belonging to the Norte del Valle Cartel were found in the fishing boat.
The seven arrested crew members – all Colombian nationals – were handed over to the Buenaventura authorities, on charges of drug manufacturing, possession and smuggling.
This year, the Navy has seized 19.4 tons of cocaine, the statement said.
