Colombia, Costa Rica seize more than 1 ton of cocaine at sea

BOGOTÁ, Colombia – A total of 1,086 kilos of cocaine (2,394 pounds) were seized in the Pacific Ocean thanks to a joint operation between coast guards and aerial units from Colombia, Costa Rica and Canada, according to the Colombia Navy.
The seizure occurred 350 miles north of the Malpelo Island, where the “Capitán Erson” ship, which carried a Costa Rican flag, was seized and its crew of four detained.
Authorities said the narcotics had a market value of US$27 million.
So far in 2012, the Colombian Navy has seized at least 30 tons of cocaine in the Colombian Pacific.
