In order to reinforce and increase investigation tasks and guarantee the protection and security of human life at sea, six Archangel speedboats arrived in Puerto Montt on November 12. Manufactured by the American company SAFE Boats International, the 44-feet long speedboats have an aluminum hull with foam collar that gives them protection and additional floating capacity.

The crew consists of three people (skipper, deck crewman and motorist), and they can transport up to 12 passengers. They can reach a maximum speed of 40 knots. In addition, they have navigation equipment, satellite communication, night vision system and they can carry a MG-3 Rheinmetall machine gun of 7.62 mm.

Three of the new Archangel speedboats have been destined to the 5th Naval Zone and will serve at Puerto Castro, Puerto Cisnes and Puerto Aguirre headquarters. At the same time, the 2nd Naval Zone will have two units in the city of Valdivia, while the other one has been assigned to the 3rd Naval zone and its home port will be Porvenir.
