Riders from the Chilean Army finished atop the rankings at the Eighteenth “Glories of the Army” International Equestrian Competition, which took place in Iquique, Chile.
The sports event was organized by the Army’s 6th Division, in coordination with the Armored Cavalry School (Escuela de Caballería Blindada), and was held at the equestrian facilities of the Tarapacá Equestrian Center. In addition to national representatives from Arica, Iquique, Antofagasta, Quillota, and Santiago, Uruguayan, Colombian, and Mexican riders participated.
In total, 80 pairs competed from the riding schools of Quillota, the La Concepcion Equestrian Club of Antofagasta, the Tarapacá Equestrian Center of Iquique, the Coraceros Equestrian Center of Arica, and personnel from the Military Academy, who took the top places in the championship’s different categories.
The most important competition, the “Glories of the Army Grand Prize,” was won by Captain René Zúñiga of the Army Riding School, who mounted on Paradigma. Captain Carlos Villarroel of the Military Academy and his horse Olimpia came in second.
Once the competition had concluded, General Mario Arteaga Velásquez, commander of the Northern Joint Command and commander-in-chief of the Army’s 6th Division, highlighted the large number of participants who competed in this version of the event, whom he personally congratulated and urged to participate again in the next version of this championship.
