Chilean Army Colonel Luis F. Cuellar Loyola has been named the U.S. Army Training & Doctrine Command’s (TRADOC) Educator of the Year for Fiscal Year 2015 in competition open to all instructors throughout the Command.
Col. Cuellar was a Partner-Nation Instructor in the School of Professional Military Studies at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) from May 2014 to December 2015, teaching primarily in the Command & General Staff Officer and the Joint Operations courses given by the School of Professional Military Studies at WHINSEC. In earning his Master Instructor certification, Col. Cuellar authored a major block of instruction on how to teach courses in addition to leading classes on history, leadership, and human rights.
His supervisor, retired Colonel Carlos Rodriguez, called Col. Cuellar “my number one instructor,” in the nine years that Col. Rodriguez has been assigned to the institute. Col. Cuellar personally facilitated more than 360 hours of premier instruction and over 850 hours of block management and review.
Col. Cuellar has continuously demonstrated expertise, encouragement, and a strong ability to motivate and teach students from different cultural backgrounds ensuring students mastered the most difficult topics,” Col. Rodriguez added.
At his departure in December, Col. Cuellar received an Army Commendation Medal, certificate, and trophy as WHINSEC’s Educator of the Year, and – as an Artilleryman – was awarded the U.S. Army of Field Artillery Association’s Ancient Order of Santa Barbara. The TRADOC will recognize Col. Cuellar’s accomplishment in a ceremony that hasn’t been scheduled.
