General Eduardo Enrique Zapateiro Altamiranda, commander of the Colombian Army, is committed to the fight against the country’s organized and remnant armed groups with international cooperation to confront transnational narcotrafficking threats. Diálogo spoke with Gen. Zapateiro about these issues at the Army Command headquarters in Bogotá.
The Colombian Army, in coordination with the Office of the Attorney General, arrested Mario Mauricio Morán, alias Camilo 40, head of the criminal group Los Contadores, a dissident faction of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC, in Spanish). Authorities made the capture in Valle del Cauca, on September 3, 2021, the Office of the Attorney General said in a statement.

The U.S. government, through its ambassador in Peru, Lisa Kenna, delivered four mobile hospitals to the Peruvian National Institute for Civil Defense (INDECI, in Spanish) for emergency and natural disaster response. The donation took place at the Peruvian Army Headquarters in Lima on August 27, 2021, said INDECI in a statement, adding that two of the hospitals are intended for the Navy, one for the Army, and another for the Ministry of Health.
The Colombian Military Forces’ Joint Special Operations Command (CCOES, in Spanish) began operations in April 2009. Its commander, Colombian Army Major General Jorge Isaac Hoyos Rojas, spoke with Diálogo during a visit to the CCOES headquarters in Bogotá in August 2021, to discuss the command’s mission and interagency work, among other topics.
Between August 28 and September 4, the Brazilian Ministry of Defense (MD, in Portuguese) coordinated Operation Poseidon 2021, through which, for the first time, helicopters and crews of the three-Armed Forces operated jointly in an interoperability exercise aboard the Brazilian Navy’s (MB, in Portuguese) multipurpose aircraft ship Atlântico (NAM, in Portuguese).
