30,000 kilograms of drugs seized in Central America, Caribbean

LYON, France – Police across Central America and the Caribbean have seized nearly 30,000 kilograms of narcotics worth about US$822 million in a coordinated operation, Interpol said on July 2.
Officers involved in the operation, which occurred throughout 34 countries, arrested 142 suspects as part of Operation Lionfish.
The counter-narcotics raids, which were coordinated from Interpol’s office in El Salvador, occurred between May 27 and June 10.
A total of 24,000 kilograms of cocaine, 5.700 kilograms of hashish, four kilograms of heroin, 15 boats and 42 firearms were seized in the operation.
Authorities throughout Central America, the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, Canada, the Netherlands, Spain and the United States also took part in Operation Lionfish.
