Honduras: 6 cattle traders fatally shot

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Six cattle ranchers were found fatally shot in the town of El Porvenir in the department of Atlántida, police said on Sept. 19.

The ranchers were transporting livestock a day earlier when they were ambushed by gunmen who opened fire with automatic rifles from their vehicle, according to Rolando Paz, the local police chief.

Honduras has the highest murder rate in Latin America at 85.5 per 100,000 residents, according to the Violence Observatory at the National University.

Police are searching for the killers.
