LIMA, Peru – Former Peruvian Prime Minister Juan Carlos Hurtado Miller, who served during the administration of President Alberto Fujimori and was accused of corruption, surrendered to authorities on April 13 after 10 years in hiding.
Miller, who served as economy minister and then prime minister in the Fujimori government, faces charges of embezzlement, conspiracy to commit a crime and collusion.
Miller went into hiding after being accused of receiving US$250,000 dollars from Vladimiro Montesinos, Fujimori’s former advisor, during his candidacy for mayor of Lima in 1998.
The former minister is currently being held in a Peruvian prison, according to his lawyer, Julio Cesar Espinoza.
